Merlo e-WORKER proves invaluable for Martin & Hamilton construction company
Operating machinery in confined spaces while keeping emissions low had become a real challenge for Martin & Hamilton Ltd, especially on sensitive projects and food-industry sites.
“We knew we needed a compact, zero-emission solution that could still perform on busy construction sites.” explains company chairman David Hamilton.
“The Merlo e-WORKER has completely transformed how we work,” David continues. “Its compact size and zero-emission electric power make it ideal for tight, enclosed areas like our Buckna Presbyterian Church build, where it can safely and efficiently move blocks, timber, tiles and other materials exactly where they’re needed. Since we purchased the e-WORKER, this is already the fourth site we’ve used it on.”

Operates well in tight, confined spaces
Site operators have also been quick to praise the machine. Chris Ward, one of the company’s machinery operators, says: “The e-WORKER is very easily handled and operates well in tight, confined spaces. With it being electric there are no emissions, which gives extra peace of mind for site operators. It didn’t take me long to master the controls, which can easily be picked up by anybody, and with it being four-wheel drive it has a real advantage on rough terrain sites.”
In strong demand
“Once our workers knew we had the e-WORKER, they were requesting it on different sites to help out in confined areas,” adds David. “With the machine being electric, we’ve even had new requests for work because it has zero emissions. We do a lot of work within the food industry, mainly the dairy sector, where emissions are not acceptable within those environments, so the e-WORKER is a big advantage for us.”
Investing in a green future
“After seeing how invaluable the e-WORKER has become across multiple projects, we’re very well pleased with how it has performed for us,” David concludes. “We’re now seriously looking into investing in a few more for the company.”
Since this article was first published, Martin Hamilton Ltd added a second e-WORKER to their fleet in 2025.
